Exploring Healing and Creativity Through Art: The Inspiring Journey of Native

Artists Work

Art has always been a medium of self-expression, a mirror to the soul, and a tool for healing. For Native, an artist from Liège, Belgium, creativity became the cornerstone of resilience and self-discovery during some of the most challenging periods of her life. Her story is one of transformation—both personal and artistic—and an exploration of how art can bridge the gap between pain and connection.

A Foundation in Art and Creativity

Native’s eclectic career journey reflects her multifaceted personality and her love for exploration. With a background in Dramatic Arts and Photography, she initially embraced the world of visual storytelling. However, her path wasn’t confined to the arts; she ventured into diverse roles such as providing tech support at Apple, graphic designing, and even working in insurance.

Her versatility was evident not only in her professional pursuits but also in her approach to creativity. Trained later in TIC (Technology, Information, and Communication) and computer graphics, she equipped herself with modern tools that would later redefine her artistic expression.

The Turning Point: Chronic Illness

Native’s life took a dramatic turn when chronic illness disrupted her professional activities. Years of medical wandering led to a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and adenomyosis, conditions that not only brought physical pain but also social isolation and anxiety.

“I felt like I was watching my life go by behind the scenes,” she shares. The emotional and physical toll was immense, but it was in this period of struggle that she found a new path—art as therapy.

Art as a Healing Journey

Her journey began with creating junk journals, a therapeutic process that allowed her to disconnect from the constant physical pain. The tactile nature of collaging became a refuge, and by 2019, she had amassed a collection of over 300 analog collages.

This body of work gained recognition, earning her an award from the prestigious Kanyer Art Collection in the United States. Her collages were not just personal expressions but also a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

“Creating a junk journal was my way of coping,” she explains. “It wasn’t just about making art; it was about reclaiming my sense of self.”

Blending Tradition and Modernity

Szostok’s innovative approach has earned him widespread acclaim. His work has been exhibited in prestigious venues across the United States, Switzerland, Iran, Milan, Poland, and Saudi Arabia. He has also been featured in leading publications like Parametric Architecture Magazine, Prompt Magazine, and AIA Magazine, where he was named one of the top 10 AI architects of 2023.

In 2024, Szostok’s influence extended further when he spoke at Digital Design Days in Milan and delivered lectures at the Warsaw Architectural Pavilion. His insights into the intersection of AI and digital architecture have inspired a new generation of architects and designers to rethink their approach to technology and creativity.

A Supportive Community

One of the defining aspects of Native’s journey into generative art has been the sense of community she discovered. Through HUG, a global network of creatives, she connected with like-minded individuals who share her passion for blending traditional and emerging technologies.

In July 2024, Native’s work was showcased at the Canvas 3.0 gallery in New York City, thanks to her collaboration with HUG and Transient Labs. This experience not only amplified her reach but also validated her efforts to push creative boundaries despite her chronic disabilities.

“The AI art community is incredibly supportive,” she reflects. “It’s a space where innovation meets empathy, and I’ve learned so much from the fascinating people I’ve met.”

The Power of Art to Transcend Limitations

For Native, art is more than a creative outlet; it’s a lifeline. Her ability to navigate various mediums—photography, collage, painting, video, and now synthography—demonstrates her refusal to let physical limitations define her.

Her work celebrates human diversity and explores the universal connection we share as citizens of Earth. It’s a call to reflect deeply on our shared experiences and to open our minds to new perspectives.

Looking Ahead

As Native continues to evolve as an artist, she remains committed to exploring the intersection of traditional and modern techniques. Her journey inspires others to find healing and meaning through creativity, proving that art can be a powerful tool for overcoming adversity.

Whether through her award-winning collages, her vibrant generative art, or her innovative use of AI tools, Native’s story is a testament to the transformative power of art.

Final Thoughts

Native’s artistic journey reminds us of the resilience of the human spirit and the boundless possibilities of creativity. In her hands, art becomes more than just a medium—it’s a way of life, a bridge to connection, and a beacon of hope for those navigating their own struggles.

For anyone looking to explore their own artistic paths, Native’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to start, and the possibilities are truly endless.
